Samesun Venice Beach - Hostel

The staff at the front desk were so accommodating, I was really grateful for how helpful they were. I stayed in a bright, clean, well-kept four-bed women’s dorm and felt comfortable there. I made lots of new friends, and there was even a shower in the dorm. The hostel is in a great spot: I could skate right out front, play saxophone on the beach, or shoot hoops next door. There’s a big kitchen, and breakfast has decent basic options. I can’t say enough good things about this hostel.

I felt safe staying here on my own and really enjoyed the hostel. I’d heard complaints about homelessness and how trashed Venice Beach can be, so I wasn’t sure about the area at first. I just made sure not to stay out too late. The all-female dorm had really cute views, and there’s plenty of food nearby with the ocean right there. Santa Monica Beach is an easy walk too, if you don’t mind going about 40-ish minutes.

Best hostel stay ever! Bleu was always kind and helpful with guests, and his patience deserves a mention. Everyone on staff worked hard to keep things relaxed and make sure people had what they needed, and more. The rooms and shared spaces stayed clean, and the kitchen was spotless. There’s a large fridge and microwave for guests. No drugs, smoking, or vaping allowed. You can walk to muscle beach, the skating area, and board and bike rentals in just a few minutes. I’ll definitely be back.

My girlfriend and I had a private room with its own sink, though the bathrooms and showers were shared. They were communal, but still private spaces, so you may need to plan your morning around when they’re free. There was a kitchen area with continental breakfast and a shared lounge for hanging out or eating. The location was handy, right off the boardwalk, maybe 20 feet away. At night the area felt a bit sketchy, which is worth knowing. It was my first hostel, so I don’t have much to compare it with, but it was a perfectly decent stay.
