Amanzi Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

I’d planned to stay here again whenever work brings me to town, but that changed after checking out today, 1/13. I was sitting quietly in the dining area after checkout, passing time before my night shift, when Jason asked how much longer I’d be in the lobby. I wasn’t talking loudly or even on my phone, but he made me feel like I was a bother. After paying over $1,200 for a week, that was a terrible way to end the stay. I won’t be back, and healthcare workers might want to spend their money elsewhere.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, and there was plenty of parking. We had a third-floor two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite facing PCH (highway 1), and the ocean view, especially at sunrise, was a nice surprise. I only tried the fresh fruit at breakfast, but the other buffet choices looked better than the usual offerings at most Choice Hotels.

We came for one night for the Ventura Nationals, and this worked out well as a simple place to stay. The hotel seems old but renovated, and the room was good with a strong AC unit. The hallways felt a bit stuffy, and we ended up cleaning the room ourselves since I wish it had been cleaned more often. Breakfast was a highlight, especially the waffles with sugar chunks that you toast yourself. We didn’t use the TV, so I can’t speak to it, but I’d expect basic channels and no extras.

You can walk to the beach from here, and there’s a nearby park that’s worth seeing if you like big trees. The rooms were roomy and nice, and breakfast was much better than at most hotels. It’s not five-star, but for the price it’s a great deal. I’d happily stay again.
