Split Mountain Motel

The location makes it easy to get to all kinds of activities, from dining and drinking to hiking and biking, and I can walk to many businesses nearby. Breakfast is served every morning from 6 to 9. The staff and the accommodations are great, and there’s a cheap washer and dryer, some of the best cable for watching TV, air conditioning, and a nice big ice machine.

I wouldn’t stay here again. It was cheap and close to the places I wanted to visit, but the main road was right there and traffic noise from cars and trucks was audible all night. Service was fine, though I didn’t need much. Breakfast was better than nothing, and at least there was milk. The small muffins were terrible, ants were near the cereal so I skipped it, and only half the waffle iron seemed to cook. The apple I had was good. Room 118 seemed clean at first, but there was someone’s chicken leg wrapped in a napkin in the fridge. The fridge and microwave worked. The sink’s hot and cold were reversed, and the shower controls were sideways: left and right were cold, while turning a little right at the top got hot. The water temperature kept changing, as if someone using water or flushing elsewhere had a big effect. The bathroom vent didn’t work, so it got like a sauna after a shower and smelled strong after using the toilet. Some of my group found the cleaner smell too strong, though it didn’t bother me. The hair dryer worked and the bed was fine. I didn’t use the TV, so I can’t say whether it worked. We opened the window, which was nice, but the screen was ripped at the bottom and bent, so bugs could have gotten in. We shut it before dark. The towels were clean but had a few hairs, and the shower grout looked moldy. With all those problems, it wasn’t good value for me.

Big, clean rooms and a great price. Raj, the owner, is very nice. I had a great experience and will stay again. Highly recommend.

This was the most disgusting place I’ve ever stayed. Our room was dirty when we checked in, and the bed hadn’t been made, with the previous sheets still on it. There was a used bar of soap by the sink, dirty towels left by the last guest, and trash in the bathroom bin. They did come change the sheets so we could at least sleep, since we had no choice: the motel was sold out because of a hockey game in town. I’m posting photos. Think twice before booking here.
