Appalachian Motel

The beds felt as hard as rocks, and the walls were so thin we could hear everything in the neighboring rooms. I ended up returning the key after just one night. Check-in was awful. The owner yelled at me several times, even after I explained that my reservation name had changed at the last minute. My friend couldn't come, but they'd allowed me to take over the booking. I had to call my friend so they could confirm their credit card details, and the owner kept yelling and mocking me while we sorted it out. My friend heard it over the phone. The verification eventually went through, but the owner stayed rude and unwelcoming. It was a really unpleasant experience, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.

My party has the flu, and I think everyone would rather not have someone who's sick on the premises. For two days I've tried to cancel my reservation. Whenever anyone actually answers the phone, the guy yells at you and hangs up. Now I'm stuck paying the fees because nobody on the other side can answer a phone properly. I'll tell anyone I know never to stay here.

The only good thing about this motel is that convenience stores and gas stations are close by. My room was dirty, with stains on the walls and what looked like dirt under the bedsheets. I found dead bug shells beneath the blankets, and the shower took 15 minutes to warm up. The owner tried to enter without warning or knocking and saying "House keeping." He tried the door twice before realizing the chain lock was on. I woke up in shock and went to the door asking who the heck it was. Only then did he realize I was still there. All he said was " sorry, sorry". Other reviews describe similar interactions. The owner doesn't not offer " Do Not Disturb" signs.

We were in town for a dog event and needed a pet-friendly place for one night. My friend and I arrived with one pet dog and one medical alert service dog, but we were told they didn't allow pets, even though the website said they were pet friendly. The guy kept repeating that dogs make rooms smell, people have allergies, and he was “losing business” because they'd allowed dogs before. He refused to let us stay. At 6:30pm we were left struggling to find somewhere pet friendly with availability. We eventually found a hotel 30 minutes away that cost twice as much.
