Econo Lodge Vero Beach - Downtown

It was after midnight when we arrived, exhausted after being scammed at another hotel. The owner was there and was so kind to my husband, our grandbaby, and me. He told us to get some sleep. It’s an older hotel, but I’d rather stay somewhere the owners and staff treat people respectfully. When we come back down, this is where I’ll stay.

I changed rooms three times because the air conditioners in several rooms were leaking and smelled moldy. The lobby had a strong mold odor too, and I suspect the filters aren’t cleaned or replaced often. I should have left when I noticed it, but it was already 10 pm. The cleanliness was another major problem. My bedding looked used, with hair, clothing threads, and stains. I appreciate that reception found fresh bedding in another room, but my room still had an unwashed sink, sticky table, dirty floor, and dirty walls. The cleaning staff left the rooms in very poor shape. I know it’s a two-star hotel with inexpensive furniture, but keeping it clean shouldn’t be impossible. People were complaining about the dirt two years ago, and it’s still a problem. I regret judging the place by its overall rating instead of reading reviews. I won’t stay here again and can’t recommend it.

The room was clean, and check-in was easy. I appreciated the front desk clerk placing me in a quiet spot at the back of the property. Still, the room smelled like smoke, and the pillowcases had a very musty odor, as if they hadn’t been changed for months. Breakfast wasn’t anything special. I enjoyed eating at Chilis, which is within walking distance, and the stay itself was quiet and enjoyable.

Nasty and disgusting. I spent half my stay cleaning and ended up with contact dermatitis. Stay away. He didn’t realize I was a mystery shopper. There’s a lot more to say, and I’ll be sending a report to choice.
