Costa d'Este Beach Resort and Spa

Lunch today was a letdown, and our group of five won’t be back or recommend the place. We sat at the indoor bar and had slow service, incorrect dishes, cold food, and a stale, overcooked burger. Several of us waited about 10 minutes for drink refills. The bartender was covering the bar, four tables, and the service bar, so I don’t blame him. He apologized and took two meals off the bill. The manager was doing inventory instead of helping and never came over to apologize. At a high-level resort, I expected much better. It left a very poor impression of how the place is run.

We left and went home after only a few hours at the beach. We’d booked for Christmas, expecting a suite, but apparently hadn’t, so that part was my fault. We took a king oceanfront room instead, and couldn’t believe how small it was. The nightstands and long drawer table along the wall were very low, and the little bistro set felt uncomfortable and like outdoor furniture. That was all there was for seating. With a better layout, a small couch could have fit. We live in Florida and have stayed in many coastal hotels, but have never had to leave one before. We paid $554.00 for the worst room I’ve ever had. It was winter, so the sun went down and we only got a few hours outside. The pool wasn’t in the sun and nobody was using it. The hotel feels very old and only somewhat remodeled, with poor room design. The price is outrageous for what you get, like a cheap motel. Domingo Ortiz described the same issues in a review, booked three nights for an anniversary, and left too. Javier Gandia also had the same experience and wouldn’t recommend the hotel. Those reviews were from a couple of weeks ago. The one positive was that the staff were very friendly. Please read the reviews carefully before booking.

My favorite part was the restaurant, especially the omelette at Wave. I had it twice and didn’t regret a single calorie. The modern king suite was amazing too, with a dream of a bathroom and sheets that were as comfortable as I expected. The weather was windy and a little chilly, though, so I couldn’t really enjoy the pool or beach access. I stayed for two days, and the staff made the experience mostly pleasant. They were personal and accommodating, and I never felt like a burden when I needed something. Check-in was easy, and they offered me a glass of champagne, which was thoughtful. I wish I’d told the front desk ahead of time that I wanted a suite away from the resort’s noise and energy. Mine was right beside the pool, and the music outside made the nights a bit restless. I recommend this resort.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the beach team setting up chairs and taking drink orders were especially sweet and attentive. My mom and I had a lovely getaway at Costa d’Este. We stayed in an oceanfront room above the bar, but it wasn’t a problem since the bar was quiet most nights and turned the lights out by 10. The spa was relaxing, and we both had great massages. 10/10, I’d stay again!
