Ocean Breeze Inn Vero Beach

We were grateful to get early check-in after a long journey, and the friendly, professional reception staff quickly found us the room that suited us best. It had bright white linens and towels, beach towels, and everything tired travelers need. The small, cozy hotel sits right on the ocean, surrounded by restaurants with good food and shops. It's budget-friendly, though the price felt clearly too high. At 2 p.m. we went to the beach, but the beach employee wouldn't let us use the umbrella and sunbed because he had to leave early. We still don't understand what that had to do with us, so we got our own umbrella from the car. That's unacceptable for a beach hotel.

The room was functional and everything worked, but the plumbing fixtures look like they may be original from the 1980s. The bathroom sink counter is extremely low, the shower pressure is marginal at best, and the water has a horrible sulfur taste. Lighting in the bedroom is poor, the TV is dated and won't connect to a streaming device, so you're stuck with cable, and the window coverings let outside light into the room. The hotel is within walking distance of different restaurants and the beach, and we stayed two nights. Replacing the fixtures, TV, and window coverings could make this room so much better.

The staff were sweet and nice, and I have no complaints about them. The beach was quiet and probably the only good part of our visit. The pool looked okay too. The hotel's main advantage is its location in a better-ish part of town, I think, though there really isn't much to do in Vero Beach anyway. The room was worse than I could have imagined. It always felt damp and somewhat moldy because there was no real air circulation, and every shower made the whole room humid. The rooms are old, the bed is uncomfortable, the towels were stained, and it gets noisy at night. Maybe my expectations weren't realistic since I've lived in Setai in Miami and live in new york city. So don't expect much and you'll be fine.

The pool and the area around it were lovely, and the hotel is in a good spot on the beach among beautiful shops. Sadly, the room we got was noisy. One employee, presumably night staff, would arrive on his Harvey Davidson and start it suddenly under our window, leaving it running for a good 5 minutes before going at 6am. It woke us every time. The old air-conditioning was noisy too. If you stay here, I'd recommend paying extra for a pool-view or ocean-view room.
