Baymont by Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

The oceanfront view was great, the air was cool, the staff were courteous, and the beach was beautiful. The hotel, though, was very dated and generally unclean. Our room had scuffs and marks all over the walls. Breakfast was basic, and the breakfast room was tiny. The tables weren’t being cleaned, and cereal and other stuff was all over the floor. It didn’t seem like that area was being cleaned at all. After we swam, we saw a bubbly, oily-looking film on the pool. It smelled fine overall, but didn’t look appealing.

The price was reasonable for my family and me, since we stayed during the week in the off season. The rooms are nice, but need some upkeep. Our walls needed repainting, the carpet didn’t feel very clean, and the whirlpool had mold in the bottom after we used it, which was gross. The ocean-facing side of the building looks run-down and badly needs cleaning and paint. Breakfast was okay, though the pool being “out of order” during our stay was a letdown.

The view and shower were the only good parts. We arrived to find our room wasn’t ready, and the front desk person practically sent us away to wait in our cars. The staff were rude. The indoor pool was filthy, with disgusting sides and bottom, and the elevators were dirty too. The gym was closed, even though when we asked BEOFRE going, they made it sound open. Most of the room lights and lamps didn’t work. The TV barely worked, the patio furniture was damaged, carpet was peeling up, and the dresser was poorly assembled. If you want a nice family vacation, don’t stay here. You’d be better off at a Super 8 or Motel 6.

The restaurant serves delicious food at reasonable prices, and the Whirlpool was great. Our room was older but beautiful and spacious, with a fantastic view from the balcony. Breakfast was free, though underwhelming. The elevators move at a tortoise’s pace. I’d definitely book again.
