I was able to decompress on a high floor, with the ocean just beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. Watching it was intoxicating, and I saw a school of dolphins nearly every morning. The kitchenette in my oceanfront studio was handy for putting together simple food when I didn’t want to go out. I chose a winter visit to avoid the crowds and get some peace and quiet, though I usually come in warm weather. This wasn’t my first stay at the Hilton Ocean Beach Club Hotel and won’t be my last. My bed started causing discomfort on the second night, so I raised it at the front desk. Aishadia overheard and stepped in, making me feel like my comfort was her top goal. She smoothly moved me to a room that suited me better, and I was grateful. Marquita made check-in a delight, and later Ms. Luvinia called to ask how the stay had gone. We talked about how our first names are similar and that we’re both named after our great-grandmothers. What a special connection. Derek helped carry my bags down to the car on checkout day, and he was as friendly and nice as could be. I also enjoyed heading to the indoor pool and jacuzzi at the adjoining sister property. The team made the whole visit easy, comfortable, and relaxing. I hope to be back soon.

We got early check-in and went straight to enjoy the hot tub, which was a great way to start. I also liked the 21+ option, the nice room, and the extra kitchen area with its supplies. Staff were very nice at both check-in and checkout. This was our second visit, though we hit a few snags this time that I don’t remember from before. A strange, loud noise went on late at night and kept us awake for a couple of hours. We were on the city side, so I’d probably request an ocean-side room next time. It would also be nice to have a coffee shop in the hotel. It was rainy and windy in the morning, and I’d rather have stayed in with coffee than go out to get some.

We visited in the first few days of December and got off-season pricing. The sunrise from our ocean-view balcony was spectacular. We sat in bed with the sliding door open and watched the whole thing, which was the room’s best feature. We had a king bed, a small kitchenette with a full-size coffee pot that came in handy, and a relatively private balcony. We could hear the neighbors but couldn’t see them. The only issue was the shower leaking onto the bathroom floor, so we had to leave a pile of towels there. It wasn’t a big deal. The sister hotel had a much better pool and hot tub.

I gave two stars solely because of the rude woman who answered the Guest Services phone around 3 p.m. on Saturday, 2/28. Kids in the room next door were stomping and pounding loudly on the outer door, the locked one that connects two hotel rooms. I called for help, but she was rude and hung up on us. When I called back to ask for a manager, she transferred me to a number that rang without anyone answering or voicemail picking up. Maybe she thought that was clever, but we can call again, use the contact form, or leave reviews on Google and Yelp. So here’s a bad review for the whole hotel because of how rudely she treated us. She shouldn’t be in a public-facing job. After check-in, there are saleswomen who hassle you about timeshares or something, barely letting you pass. They keep talking even after you say no, and then call your room to push it further. Please remove this nuisance. Handing out information is one thing, but hard selling to people trying to leave and calling their rooms is not okay. The room was clean and big enough, with a nice bed, good TV channels though no channel guide, a fridge, sink, coffee maker, glasses, and cups. The pillows were a little too puffy, but I had no neck trouble. Spend extra for the beach side, since the city side is noisy and could be rough in summer. There’s a huge apartment building right across that view, which made it uncomfortable to leave the curtains open as a woman. The room doors are awkward too: you first use a key card on a locked door shared by two rooms before reaching your own door, making it uncomfortable if both neighbors come and go at once. I don’t know why that setup is needed. The location is great, right by the beach and within walking distance of lots of restaurants. You can valet or use the parking structure a block away. The valet guys were nice and let us park there first to check in. Everyone else on staff was nice apart from the woman on the phone and the saleswomen. There are plenty of hotels around, so choose one where all the staff are friendly and nobody harasses you in the lobby or by phone.

The entrance was hard to reach because freight and box trucks were blocking the road in front of the hotel. We also arrived without knowing the outdoor heated pools were closed, even though they were one of the main reasons we chose the place for the kids. We only learned the rooms were being remodeled two days before check-in. The day after check-in, I was called rude by front desk staff at 9 AM on 3-2-26, after we’d already had trouble checking in the previous day because an employee had made a mistake. I was frustrated, but the way it was handled made things worse. A light in our room kept flickering. When I asked about it, they said they’d look into it but didn’t even ask which light. It’s disappointing to have this kind of experience at a hotel backed by Hilton. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever had to deal with.
