Holiday Inn Express & Suites VA Beach Oceanfront by IHG

The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and I especially liked having a fridge and microwave. It’s close to the beach and restaurants, though it got a little loud with so many kids staying there and running around. In the mornings, the sink took a long time to get warm or hot, so I had to let the water run quite a while. The staff were very nice and friendly. I’d consider staying again.

From the seventh floor we had beautiful views and saw dolphins every morning and early evening. Staff were kind and quick to bring extras. We asked for more towels and someone arrived in less than five minutes. The room itself was okay, but underwhelming for cleanliness and upkeep compared with the phenomenal Holiday Inn Express stays we usually have. There weren’t any bugs, but it didn’t look as if the room had had a proper cleaning. It needed vacuuming, dusting, and a general wipe-down, especially in the bathroom. This wasn’t because of sand, salt water, or any unavoidable factor. It wasn’t filthy, just not the cleanest or best maintained HIE I’ve stayed in. The location is great for a VA beach getaway. We went in October, so parking wasn’t much of an issue. The lot was full once, and there was plenty of space across the street behind Ben & Jerry’s.

We stayed for four days over Thanksgiving weekend. The room was clean, our linen was refreshed daily, and the staff were friendly. Since it was in the 30s, the hot chocolate they offered each day helped keep us warm. The hotel is right on the beach, and we could hear the waves crashing even with the balcony doors shut. There were cosmetic repairs needed on the ceiling above the shower, but it didn’t cause us any problems. Good place to stay.

The room was spacious and nice, but the shower was full of mold. I paid $190 for one night in January, booked through booking.com, and at that price the room should be clean. It was room 606 under my daughter’s name, and I can provide more information in a private email. I come here for a doctor appointment related to allergies, alpha gal, and other issues. A track meet or game had the rooms priced way up, which I think is wrong, though I guess that’s why I don’t own a motel. I try to use unscented soaps, lotions, and shampoos. People with severe allergies, especially those who react to fumes, can react fast. When you ask staff and they say the environment is safe, then arrive to perfumes and mold, that’s a serious concern. Please educate staff about this, as it may help save a life. My allergies are so bad right now that I carry an epi pen everywhere. It was nice to see turkey sausage and yogurt that were alpha gal and lactose friendly.
