Ocean Cove Motel

We only planned on two nights, but decided to stay for a third. We were upgraded to Angie's Cottage on arrival because it was available, and it was clean, beautifully decorated, and well maintained. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, and we felt treated like royalty. Restaurants and the ocean are just a few minutes' walk away. We had booked based on the great reviews.

The kitchenette had nothing in it, not even a spoon, and the door was falling off. The place was dated. The owner was a narcissistic bully. Read the fine print: I was kicked out because my niece and brother stopped by for 20 minutes. Worst place I've ever stayed.

Room 201 felt unsafe. There's a door between the units with no visible lock, and only a desk was keeping it from opening. I have pictures. I went in, saw the problem, and checked out, but didn't get a refund, even though Booking dot com said it was unsafe. Don't stay here.

This is my third of four reviews from 26 years ago, about the beginning of my wife's and my life together. I was 21 and she was 19, and we were going through a tough stretch. I was on the run from the Navy, trying to survive a situation I'd brought on myself but that came in response to things outside my control. Staying in those four efficiency rooms across the street, then part of Ocean Cove, made us feel like adults, like a married couple. They had a small kitchen, a queen bed, a nice bathroom, and parking in back, all affordable. We cooked there and dyed our hair in the bathroom. Through all the difficulty, love grew over the next 26 years. It still looks okay from outside, and the rear parking is still there. When I was homeless and on the run, I used to park behind the place. Once, a drunk girl from a club snuck back there and leaned on my car while she peed. So many stories in one life, lol.
