Sugarloaf Mountain Motel

Room 4 was beautiful and very clean, and the owner and staff were some of the loveliest people you'll meet. They shared stories about the town's history, and the attached market had loads of food, snacks, and drinks to choose from. This was one of the best stays we've had. I'd recommend this motel to anyone visiting Virginia City, and we won't stay anywhere else there.

The room was clean, but the bed wasn't, so I slept in my sleeping bag. I stopped here at random on a Sunday night while driving the back roads home from Utah. It's a typical 1950s roadside motel, in the middle of a remodel with a look I'd call bunkhouse, steampunk, or ponderosa industrial. Maybe it was the off-season, or maybe the renovation had something to do with it, but neither is an excuse.

The town's a fun old place, with shops and saloons, and they're having a Halloween festival right now. Our room, number 8, was small but comfortable. Something I assume was a ghost kept messing with me for part of the night. As soon as we came in, I felt something touching my ring finger. Then around 3 a.m. my phone kept buzzing and lighting up every five minutes or less. I told it to stop playing with my phone, and it paused for about 15 minutes before starting again. What a fun night. Ghosts always seem to pick on me.

We had booked at the very last minute and weren't sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. The room was comfortable, with a remodeled bathroom and everything we needed. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the little on-site store and free morning coffee were nice to have. We really enjoyed the stay and will come back.
