My family has visited Hale Kamaole several times in different units over the last 20 years, and those stays were good. Unit 265 was a very different story during our July 21-30, 2025 booking. It was dusty, dirty, and clearly needed attention when we arrived. Dust covered lamps, shelves, and decorations throughout. The walls were dirty, ants were everywhere, even in the beds, and the upstairs closet was unusable, stuffed with a broken mirror, extra lamps, and dusty bedding. Several things didn’t work or were unusable. The living room fan wouldn’t turn on the first night and its light was stuck on. Without A/C in Maui in July, airflow matters, and that light made the room hotter. Our kids ended up in our bed, even though there was a loft, because the twin mattresses had yellow stains and the couch wasn’t an option with the light on. The upstairs shower had no water from the showerhead, only the tub spout, and the bathtub was too dirty for a bath. Ants in the bathroom crawled on my toothbrush. We called the office on July 21 about the cleanliness and ants. Since check-in was at 4pm and the office closed at 5pm, they said they were out of ant traps, would talk with the property manager the next day, and contact us. After many calls back and forth on July 22, they offered to send cleaners the next day, July 23, to deal with our concerns and replace the loft mattresses. They refunded the cleaning fee and first night. We would have preferred a different unit, but were told that wasn’t possible. The cleaning helped but was still sub-par, and the ants stayed for the whole trip, so we had to keep all food bagged and in the fridge. Unit 265 is unclean and outdated, and it seems the owner and property management haven’t kept up with repairs or renovations it badly needs. Management said they did a walkthrough that morning, so either they didn’t, or they didn’t care about cleanliness. The problems were obvious. I’m sad to say I won’t return or recommend Hale Kamaole to friends and family. I’ll stay elsewhere. These pictures were taken when we arrived.
