Wailua Bay View 204 - 1 Br Condo

We were very happy with our week here. The view over the ocean was great, and there was plenty of parking. The condos are about halfway along the island's east side. A couple of restaurants, a bakery, and a convenience store with a gas station are within walking distance, while grocery stores, Walmart, Costco, and lots more restaurants are a short drive away. It's an older condo building without an elevator, but the property was clean and well maintained. Hope we can come back sometime!

We booked a flat for three nights through Airbnb. The spacious living room and kitchen had all the accessories we needed, and the bedroom was comfortable. There was also a welcome kit. The balcony had an awesome view of Wailua Bay.

Our Unit 205 had a king bedroom, one bath, full kitchen, and laundry. We rented through a vacation rental service. Wailua Bay View is a multi-unit building with different owners and an on-site manager. This isn't a luxury spot; it has a casual feel, like an earlier era of tourism in Hawai’i. Jalousie windows on both the parking lot and ocean sides let us make a cross breeze, and the bedroom had an air conditioner for sleeping. There's a small shared pool by the parking lot, though we didn't use it. The manager was a gem, full of local knowledge and recommendations, and he keeps the lovely plants and flowers in great shape. The unit looked down over the former Seashell Restaurant, once a popular beachside hangout for guests at the former Coco Palms resort, which Elvis made famous. In its current condition it's an eyesore, though knowing its history made it less so to me. Sometimes local houseless people sheltered in and around the abandoned property. We'd occasionally hear them before they settled in for the night. They never bothered us, and we offered them leftover food when we left. The beach out front has rough waves. It's good for walks, looking at tide pools, and playing in the sand, but not safe for inexperienced swimmers, so keep watching the ocean. It was nearly empty, with a few fishermen in the morning and a few people walking in the evening. Otherwise it felt like a private beach. We loved the locally owned bakery next door and being close to dining and shopping. We had a great stay and I'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to stay on Kaua’i. I already live in Hawai’i and wasn't looking for a polished, touristy resort. I wanted to feel at home on Kaua’i, and this location was exactly right for that.
