My family still talks about our November 2025 trip to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground. It was our second visit, and it felt just as wonderful as the first. We all had a blast, especially because the relaxed atmosphere made it easy to slow down and enjoy being together. The campsites are spacious, the grounds are peaceful and well kept, and getting around by resort transportation was smooth, including trips to the Disney parks. Staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout. Fort Wilderness feels like a home away from home. We're already talking about coming back.
The beach fireworks are a real highlight: you can watch the Magic Kingdom show there with its music playing over the beach speakers. About 20-30 minutes later, the nightly electric boat parade comes by, which is fun too. I've camped here several times and would recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to a Disney resort. I love camping, and staying on Disney property gives you access to the public buses, so it feels like a good mix of both. There are several amenities, two restaurants, and a bar serving quick bites. For a Disney property, I think it's good value.
If your main plan is visiting the parks, this location works fine. The campsites are decent, though some offer more privacy than others, and the bathrooms stay clean considering how much use they get. They’re especially busy from 8-9 am. The showers are another story: the drains can leave you standing in a few inches of water, and shoes left on the mat just outside may get wet. There used to be nature trails and a lovely wooded bike route to the Fort Wilderness lodge, but those have been closed for years as the vacation resort keeps expanding. Construction has also shut off all but a small trail near the beach, with no sign of that changing. Great for park visits, but if you want to do other things, I'd go elsewhere.
We were a family of six, and keeping everyone comfortable and the kids entertained can be a challenge. Fort Wilderness handled it beautifully, with a peaceful rustic feel alongside the usual Disney magic. The boat ride straight to the Magic Kingdom was a huge convenience, and the pools were fantastic. The grounds looked lovely, and the Cast Members were wonderful and went out of their way to welcome us. We also rented a golf cart, which I'd recommend for exploring the different loops and seeing how people decorate their campsites. A magical stay from beginning to end.
The cabin was beautiful and clean, and we had a fantastic family vacation here. Getting a golf cart is a must if you want to get around easily. There are lots of activities on the resort, plus buses and a ferry to the Disney parks and Disney Springs. The workers were friendly, helpful, and knew the area well. We'd love to come back.
