Hyatt Place Chicago/Naperville/Warrenville

This location is handy for Wheaton College and the arboretum, and it's always clean with good coffee and great fruit. I'd like a few new choices on the breakfast bar. The second elevator has been out for over a month, and there's a lobby leak that needs fixing. It sounds like remodeling may be coming soon.

The rooms were nice, and the bed, kitchenette, and pool were clean. It was a nice perk to have tea, coffee, and water in the lobby. One concern: some long-term residents seemed suspicious. A man stared at the kids through the pool window, so the manager spoke to him about his behavior and Corporate was notified. I wish Corporate would consider shades for the pool area; being able to close them would have made it more comfortable.

The staff were really friendly, and breakfast was great each morning. They offered breakfast, and the hotel had a small bar, a pool, and a gym. The stay was comfortable and the atmosphere was friendly. A decent hotel from the Hyatt brand.

The property itself was pleasant overall: my room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the pool was a nice feature. The bathroom was somewhat small and dim, but manageable for a short stay. My problem was the unclear pet policy. Booking.com listed the hotel as pet-friendly, and neither its listing nor the hotel's own site said cats weren't accepted. The website says there's a nonrefundable pet fee, a maximum of two dogs per room, and that pets must be housebroken. That wording never clearly says only dogs are allowed. I don't object to a dogs-only policy, but clearer information would have saved confusion and stress. I arrived on 8/27 with my cat and told the front desk I was willing to pay the pet fee. I explained I would check out on 8/30 for a wedding at another hotel about 30 minutes away, then return here from 9/1-9/3. The associate was kind, said cats were not usually allowed, but promised to leave management a message and said they'd contact me if it was a problem. Nobody followed up during my first stay, so I thought it was okay. When I came back on 9/1, another front desk associate was much less accommodating. She said cats weren't allowed because of pet dander and that rooms had to be taken out of service for two full days after a cat stayed. When I asked her to call a manager, she gave little context and simply asked whether cats were permitted. The manager said no. I asked to speak with the manager myself and was told to go to the sister property next door. The manager there, Emmitt, I believe, was polite and ultimately approved my stay, which I appreciated.
