Eurostars Saint Gregory Dupont Circle Georgetown

Since Eurostar acquired the St Gregory, the operation has lost some of its polish. The toiletries used to feel refined and left my skin radiant, but they’ve been replaced with cheap imitations that leave my skin dry and prickly all day. Service now feels close to perfunctory, and breakfast has been cut back from what used to be a generous offering. I wouldn’t be surprised if charging extra to use the lift is the next cutback.

The best part of our visit was brunch at the restaurant. The food was great, and the service was excellent. We’d come back to eat there. The hotel stay itself was a letdown. The bath and hair gel dispensers fell off the wall into the tub while I was showering. Staff were supposed to fix them, but when we returned later, the dispenser was still broken and a staff member had left pliers on the floor. On the second day, the toilet handle stopped flushing properly, and we were told the water would be shut off for three hours. The third day was worse. Water from the room above had flooded the living area floor when we returned to get ready for an evening event. We had to move rooms, which took quite a while, and missed the event. I contacted the manager, who apologized for the mess and did a few things to appease us. We booked because the reviews were good, but our experience didn’t match what others had described.

I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. The room was noisy, the heating and cooling were dysfunctional, the gym treadmills sounded awful, and the food experience was poor. On top of that, the cleaning and maintenance problems and the hidden fees left us feeling the hotel didn’t deliver what it promised. DC has plenty of other hotels in similar locations for similar prices. We had the St. Gregory King Suite. It was spacious, with a fairly nice outdoor landing, a large bathtub, and working coffee maker and fridge. The view included an office park, a roof, and a flag. But the room was near rooftop utilities and stayed around 55 decibels. It wasn’t unbearable, but hardly relaxing. The heating and cooling either blasted heat or tried to freeze us, then seemed to give up. We dealt with it by warming the room past comfortable and turning the system off. We used the gym, but the treadmills needed work and made a noise like plastic sheeting caught in a belt sander. On arrival, the lobby looked modern and nicely decorated, and the staff seemed pleasant. The elevators to our ninth-floor room showed their age, though they weren’t too bad. The room had trash left by the previous guest, including what looked like pineapple slurry in the refrigerator. The fireplace and bathroom TV didn’t work. The snack area was empty, though prices were listed, so I worried we’d be charged. I checked the bill and found it was about $200 more than the confirmation price. Paul at the desk was nice and apologetic. He said rooms were normally clean and would note the mess, confirmed we wouldn’t be charged for snacks, and said the fireplaces were a known issue with no repair timeline. He showed me, in tiny print on the confirmation email, that the room price excluded added fees. I told him the pricing wasn’t transparent. He said the bathroom TV was nonfunctional too, noted everything for the GM, and asked me to check back the next day about compensation. I did, then followed up twice more, but got no word. As a customer, I felt the first 15 minutes had already made sure I wouldn’t return or recommend the hotel. We went down for our included bed-and-breakfast deal at 10:00 a.m. The restaurant closed at 11:00, but despite only two other tables being occupied, they acted as if seating us was a huge ask. They checked with the kitchen and let us sit, but told us to order quickly. I felt rushed, ordered, and finished by 10:30. We were staying two nights and had taken the B&B deal for both, but apparently it only covered one breakfast. The food was worse than what you’d get at a standard Panera.

The location made exploring Washington, DC easy, with attractions, shops, and restaurants within walking distance, plus convenient public transportation nearby. The St. Gregory’s restaurant served delicious meals in a setting that worked for casual dining and special occasions. The staff were helpful and accommodating, from the front desk to housekeeping, and the personal service made me feel valued. My room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a modern but welcoming feel. I highly recommend it and hope to return on my next visit.
