Hilton Washington DC Capitol Hill

The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and stayed clean, even with remodeling underway. The work didn’t get in the way of the staff making our three-night trip feel special. We loved the spacious, clean rooms and the location, but what mattered most was how welcome and safe we felt. The staff were hospitable from check-in through our departure from DC. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels while traveling, but this one felt like home away from home. Thanks, Hilton Capitol Hill.

The public areas felt fresh and lovely, and the place was clean and comfortable. We’d come back for the convenient location, with a few good restaurants around the corner, and the view from our upgraded suite of the top of Capital building was awesome. Breakfast wasn’t amazing, but it was solid. The mattress was a little tough, though I think it may have been a murphy bed, and the nicer room made up for that. Parking tip: use SpotHero for the garage across the street at the Hall of States. It’s a safe, secure spot, less than a two-minute walk away, and saves quite a bit compared with valet.

We only booked here because we had to travel with our pet and needed a pet-friendly place. The location was decent and the lobby looked nice, but the service was poor. I tipped the doorman when dropping off the car and told him we’d be right back to get something else from it. Ten minutes later, another employee was trying to drive off. The first man told him to wait, and he reacted with attitude, got out, told the other guy to handle it, then gave me a dirty look. Our floor was unfinished from renovation. The room was clean, but unbearably hot. I was told the thermostat was just for looks and nothing could be done except to “open a window for me.” It only cracked open, so it barely helped. I could either lie awake with city noise coming through the window or shut it and stay in the heat. They offered to move us but couldn’t say if another room would be cooler. The hot water also cut out a minute into my shower. No one seemed to care about the hassle. For the price, that was awful. We won’t stay here again. Hilton on the National Mall is worlds better, has working room controls, and has never been less than excellent. If this happens again, I’ll find somewhere else, even if it’s farther away.
