The Baron Hotel

We paid for four rooms a month in advance directly through the hotel. Three were supposed to have double beds for four college students each, but when we arrived the desk clerk said no double rooms were available and shrugged, saying we’d picked a bad time to visit. Some people had to sleep on the floor. We even had to fight to get our charges reduced from double rooms to all queen beds. There was no refund or apology. The service was the worst part, but the place itself is a total dive. The rooms are sparsely decorated, the hotel is unkempt, and bags of garbage, spare linens, and boxes are left in view of the lobby. We found a centipede on the wall. It’s not old and quaint, it’s old and icky. I’m astounded some people rated it so highly. For the price, it’s a rip off.

I stayed three nights, and for the price it was definitely worth it. The hotel is well located, within walking distance of the points of interest and the subway. The rooms are quite old, but mine had been renovated and was in pretty good shape.

I almost never leave reviews, but this place was so disgusting I had to say something. The sheets were dirty, the carpet filthy, and the walls had stains from who knows what. The bathroom was tiny and not updated at all. Everything felt dirty, and I couldn’t wait to leave. If you’re even remotely concerned about cleanliness, please don’t stay here.

It’s handy for the Subway and the sights, and the price was good for DC. The hotel has a bar, though there’s a Liqour store around the corner. It feels like it was last modernised when Lincoln was President, but I liked its old world charm. The elevator’s a bit ropey, but clean and functional.
