Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC by IHG

The staff were welcoming, kind, and professional, and they made the trip a great experience. We were able to check in early and leave late, which we really appreciated. The location was convenient to lots of attractions, and valet made it easy to leave the car and use public transportation. Our room was clean, quiet, and well maintained in a beautiful hotel. The only small issue was the mattress protector, which made the bed noisy and somewhat less comfortable than expected. We used points for a free night, so that was our only expense. Great stay!

The stay felt effortless and enjoyable, and it was easy to unwind in a comfortable room with thoughtful details. The property was quiet, clean, and very well maintained. Staff were positive and professional every time I interacted with them.

I've photographed about half a dozen weddings at the Hotel Monaco DC, and for my couples it's been an appealing, stylish, easy all-in-one option. The ceremony space is distinctive and can be arranged in several interesting ways. Nearby streets and museums offer plenty of good portrait spots, and the hotel's location and elegant modern design make it a beautiful setting. Most of all, my couples can connect with their people here, and the Hotel Monaco makes that easy.

The lobby, hallways, and public areas at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco DC are cozy, chic, and nicely furnished. The scent in the lobby is lovely, and the building's exterior is beautiful. I also appreciated the complimentary wine hour from 5-6 p.m. each night. The bell team was consistently friendly and greeted me with “welcome back” when I returned. The room was a major letdown for nearly $600 a night. Room 422 seemed to have been made from storage space beside the ballroom, whose doors were only a few feet away. On multiple nights, around 12:30-1:00 a.m., I was woken repeatedly by what sounded like a staff member, possibly security, going in and out of the ballroom. I had already raised the issue with the front desk. There were other problems too: an alarm went off in my room at 6 a.m. even though I hadn't set one, a hallway floorboard was loose beneath the carpet, and the gym Peloton didn't work properly. The rooms feel dated apart from the bathroom wallpaper. My in-room “cooler” was broken, and the replacement refrigerator froze all my food solid. The small, stuffy gym had dirty, partly broken equipment. When I tried to follow up in the IHG app, I found messages went to a call center instead of directly to the hotel. I followed up several times but got no useful response, and the eventual reply felt dismissive. At this price, I expected more care and responsiveness. The location, bell team, and lobby are lovely, but the rooms and response to problems fell far short of the rate. I wanted to love the stay, but the value just isn't there.
