The breakfast is worth getting: the eggs were always cooked just right, and the potatoes were nicely seasoned. The staff were friendly and polite, and I could walk to the National Mall and several good restaurants. It’s also easy to get an Uber if you prefer. For a historic hotel, everything was well maintained and the design felt avant-garde. I loved the spacious shower, though it took 10-15 minutes for the water to warm up.

I booked a Saturday night and had the quietest, most peaceful hotel stay I can remember. It also suits me that the place isn’t marketed to families with kids. I believe all the rooms are one-bedroom, and the atmosphere is very adult oriented. I’d definitely consider it for future stays in DC.

The hotel is clean, nice, and convenient, though valet parking is a bit expensive. Check-in and checkout at the front desk could feel much more welcoming. The rude expressions and abrasive tones toward guests detract from the stay, and hospitality is a big part of a hotel experience.

The doormen are friendly, and the lobby is beautiful. You can walk to downtown, and with a 45-minute to an hour walk you can reach the White House, Washington Monument, and Lincoln Memorial. The room was large, but not comfortable, and the suite we paid for was in the newer five- or six-story hotel beside the Historic Inn shown in the pictures. It felt like a bait and switch. The couch was uncomfortable, the TV was poor quality, and the basic cable mostly had reruns of old cop shows. Shower temperature varied, and in the morning the water barely got above room temperature. There was nowhere in the bathroom for my wife and me to hang towels. The elevators were out for two days during our visit. Since the hotel is split in half, we had to use another elevator, but there were no directions for finding the other side of the building once we reached the right floor. The layout is confusing. Lobby coffee also seemed like an afterthought: the pots were empty every day, and guests had to ask for more. With so many alternatives nearby, I’d consider another hotel.
