Phoenix Park Hotel

Being so close to Union Station and an easy walk from the Capitol made getting around simple. Even with that central spot, my room was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The hotel has an old-fashioned, historic feel and seems well looked after. Everyone I met was attentive and friendly without making too much of it, and check-in was quick. I had a great weekend here and would happily return or recommend it to someone visiting DC.

The Dubliner downstairs serves a lot of seafood, and the smell carries through the lobby and elevators. It didn't reach my room, though, so it may be fine if you don't mind the smell in the common areas. My bathroom also drained slowly, leaving me standing in a puddle during showers. I can't say whether other rooms have the same issue. The staff were really friendly, the historic hotel is near everything we came to DC for, and the price was reasonable. I found a very cheap deal through Trivago. Just watch for a facility fee charged for each day after your stay.

I'm leaving at 6am to catch the Acela, so the hotel's location is about as convenient as it gets. I also got a great price and a large, clean room. The decor feels a little dated, but I like the place and I'm looking forward to using my free drink coupon at the Irish restaurant tonight. Hope the food's good too. I came early just to drop off my bag and enjoy the day in DC, but they actually checked me in at 11am, which is pretty unheard of in my experience as a Front Desk clerk. Robin was especially pleasant, efficient, and helpful. She put me on a high floor with a view of Union Station, which I really appreciated as a rail fan.

The room was small, but clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Good value, too. The frustrating part came when we asked about a second night as winter storm refugees. At first they said nothing was available, then later called to say they could fit us in for five times what we'd paid the first night. Late stage capitalism strikes again.
