Stay Alfred at Varsity on K

Having a whole apartment instead of a small hotel room for less money was great, and the residential feel made it relaxing, like a second home. The location was amazing for the price: the Metro, a 7-Eleven, the hospital, a farmer’s market, and a couple of restaurants were all under a five-minute walk. Whole Foods was just a little farther, and Old Georgetown is on the free bus route. The residents and Stay Alfred staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints, I highly recommend it.

The apartment was very clean, but the small bars of soap ran out quickly, and there was only enough coffee for one morning. The fairly new furniture was so uncomfortable, especially after walking around DC all day. If the price were the same, I’d probably choose a good motel next time.

The room was okay, but the air conditioning never got fixed during our stay. It was 80° every night, which made sleeping uncomfortable. They gave us a portable AC unit, but it made the room even hotter. The shower ceiling was disgusting, and we were glad to leave. Washington DC was amazing, though, and we had a great time in the city.

The apartment was clean, well maintained, up to date, and nicely decorated. It had a good fridge and cooking facilities, plus a washer and dryer in the bathroom. They even supplied washing-up liquid and soap powder. The building has lots of shared spaces, including a well-equipped fitness room and a back garden with seating and a gas BBQ. We saw people using the BBQ, though we didn’t try it ourselves. There’s a supermarket nearby and plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The subway is walkable too, although we mostly used Uber and similar services. Check-in seems to worry people, but this isn’t a hotel, so there’s no reception. They sent a code for the main entrance and a personal pin for the apartment door, which was easy enough, and there was a fob inside for the other building doors. It was a good stay, and I’d definitely recommend it.
