Stay Alfred on M Street

The kids spent ages in the game room, and having a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment worked really well for our three-night stay. It’s more self-service than a hotel, which suited us fine. The check-in directions were easy to follow, and checkout was basically just starting the dishwasher. We had plenty of coffee, and the kitchen was well equipped. There’s a corner market with fresh fruit, prepared food, and beer and wine nearby, and anything farther away was a quick, cheap cab ride. We’d happily stay here again when we’re in DC.

The location was really good, but the apartment looked better in the photos than it did in person. Both bathrooms had showers with almost no pressure, which made showering a nightmare. The walls and living room rug were dirty, and the sofa bed mattress was so bad it was impossible to sleep on. I called about the mattress and they sent an air mattress. There was only one trash bag in the kitchen bin for my five-day stay, so I had to buy more. My first Stay Alfred booking, in Seattle, was amazing and had no issues. This time wasn’t the same, but I might give them another try someday, just not at this location.

We got around DC’s attractions easily without a car. Streets market is just down the block, Whole Foods is walkable, and the Metro stations aren’t far. If you’re going to the airport without a vehicle, I’d recommend taking an Uber there and back. The first-floor apartment is in a safe neighborhood, and I’d stay here again. The bathrooms are huge, there’s lots of closet space, comfortable beds with spare blankets, and the living room feels cozy. The kitchen has coffee and tea, though some basics like salt and pepper would be useful. Having the washer and dryer was a blessing. A hair dryer was there too, luckily, since I forgot mine. One shower head needs to be unscrewed and resealed with plumber’s tape; one section of a blind was broken, making a little spy hole. Thanks for giving us a home away from home!

We arrived to a clean room that was ready for us, and everything else went smoothly. The location was hard to beat for our DC trip. A couple of small things: the bathroom could use more towel racks, and only one of the bedrooms had a portable fan. It would’ve been nice for both rooms to have one.
