The lobby, room, and bathroom were actually nice, but the thermostat didn’t work. The weather happened to be pleasant while I was there, so that was manageable. The internet problem was the real issue during my 11-night stay. I’d booked high-speed access for work meetings and international calls, but I was only getting about 20 Mbps on my MacBook, iPhone 13 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S25. That was far below what I’d consider high-speed. The staff moved me to another room, but the connection was no better. After two days I spoke with the manager and asked for reasonable compensation since the advertised service wasn’t available. He said the hotel couldn’t compensate me and called it a “personal issue” because no other guests had complained. He sent me to the internet provider, where I spent 33 minutes on the phone without a solution. The manager also tested the connection on his own device and confirmed it was slow. I was given another wifi network to try, but that was slow too. In the end I gave up and spent a lot on add-on data. Even an Xfinity hotspot 1 week pass was too slow at this location. I tried everything I could as a guest to fix it. Maybe shorter stays or people who didn’t need fast internet didn’t notice, but I needed it for my work. The hotel didn’t provide the service it advertised, and it offered no compensation despite my speaking and emailing about the problem. By that point, compensation wasn’t even my main concern. I was most upset that they treated it as a “personal issue” after I’d done far more to resolve it than the staff seemed willing to do. Please don’t advertise high-speed internet if it isn’t available. I would have stayed somewhere else, and my online meetings wouldn’t have been disrupted.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and being only a couple of blocks from my conference was handy. Sleeping was harder. The room stayed hot because the heat kept running, so I had to leave the window slightly open. Then the cars and people partying outside were loud at night. Closing the window brought back the heat.

The service really made our school trip memorable. The staff took care to learn our names, noticed what we might need, and were the most attentive, caring people we met on the trip. The Normandy itself has charming rooms and a lovely building, and its location is convenient for getting to lots of good restaurants. We had an incredible experience.

The staff were VERY helpful and friendly through a difficult night. Our first room was small, and the curtain wouldn’t pull up to let in more light, but we were only staying one night for our anniversary. We left our things and went to dinner. When we returned, a HORRENDOUS bathroom odor had developed and kept getting worse. After about 10 minutes, we called the front desk. Maintenance had already left for the night, so she quickly moved us to another king room. The second room was nicer and had a larger bathroom, plus balcony doors, though there was no balcony and one door was hard to open. But the thermostat didn’t work. We were there in December, and it was freezing outside. The front desk attendant came up within minutes and got the heat on, but then we couldn’t turn it off overnight. The room got well into the 80s. We were exhausted after exploring DC, so instead of calling again, we cracked the balcony door and put up with it. There were also patches of missing carpet with nails exposed. That’s not safe in a place that welcomes pets or families with kids, though the spots were in corners and didn’t affect our experience. The staff are the only reason this review isn’t worse.

Marwa greeted me so kindly and got me checked in in no time. The hotel was exactly where I needed to be for work around DuPont circle, and it felt very safe. The wine, cheese, and crackers were a nice extra. I loved my stay at this boutique hotel. Support kind locals instead of chains, this place is top notch.
