The replacement cabin was fine, but finding out about the switch only at 10:30pm, after I used the entry code and saw the cabin we booked was under renovation, was a shock. A message earlier in the day could have made things go differently. There are four cabins, two being fully renovated and workers staying in the third. I did contact you after the stay to suggest being upfront with guests about what’s going on. I could have reached out while there, but I’m not sure what could have been done. The cabin we were moved to looked nice, though it had no air conditioning. Workers were on the property, the grounds were overgrown, and the hot tub had no privacy, so we couldn’t use it. The poor communication and state of the property made the stay frustrating, and I expected more professionalism. There’s potential here, but I’d wait until the renovations are done. It just needs more time, and I can see it becoming a great place.

James, I think that was his name, at the other Fireside location was so kind when we accidentally went to the Grayling one instead of Gaylord. He went out of his way to help us find the right place. That was the bright spot in a discouraging stay. We paid nearly $300 for one night, and the room was in rough shape. There was rotten food and flies in the fridge, food left on the stove, thick dust on most surfaces, dead bugs by the room edges and windows, and crumbs and hair between the sheets. There were also clumps of mud outside the bathroom. Every smoke detector was open and missing its battery, which really concerned us, and the heat didn’t work, so we slept in the freezing cold. The cabins around the water looked charming, and there seemed to be lots of activities. The place has real potential, but our stay didn’t live up to it. We tried three or four ways to reach them to sort this out before posting a Google Review, but the messages bounced back as undeliverable or showed errors, including texts and the email review prompt. They’re good at asking for reviews, but the contact options didn’t work for us. We hope to travel up this way again next summer, but unless this is made right, we wouldn’t stay here again.

We booked cabin 1 for three nights but left after two. The cabin was much smaller than the pictures suggested and very dated. We found several dirty socks and a marijuana container hidden under a bedsheet at the bottom of a basket. Water pressure was barely there, and the toilet filled too slowly to flush properly. There was only one paper towel on the roll and a single window air conditioner for the whole place. Outside, the fire pit was nasty. Both nights, something sounded like an animal running around in the attic, which made it hard to sleep. I contacted them and still hadn’t heard anything after three days. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We stayed the weekend after the huge ice storm, and the little cabin was ready for us, nice and clean. It was a perfect getaway for a couple, with the hot tub and fire pit making a great spot to spend the weekend.
