Relax Inn

From the outside, you wouldn’t guess how much care has gone into this motel. It seems they’ve renovated extensively over the past few years. The rooms look elegant and smell nice, with no smoke smell, which was a relief. It has a calm, relaxing feel and reminds me of motels from years ago. It’s not one of those cookie-cutter MacDonald's places. I like it, and can see a family enjoying a road trip stop here with the kids.

The hallway smelled awful, and the place looked very outdated. My nonsmoking room had blankets with burn holes. When I checked the bed, I saw bugs, so I left right away and headed down the road to a Best Western, luckily.

It was $65 a night, and the price felt right. The motel was quiet and clean, with what looked like recently updated furnishings. The room was really nice, and the bed was comfortable. I’d recommend giving this place a try.

The rooms are basic but comfortable enough, with flat-screen TVs and a large, comfortable king bed. Mine was heated by a portable floor heater. The owner’s lack of hospitality is why I’m giving this place such a low score. My car broke down nearby, and I talked with him about it at length. It was freezing, and the next morning I asked the front desk for just an hour or so of late checkout because the car wasn’t ready. I would’ve had to walk to the dealership and wait in its lobby. He said he doesn’t like late checkouts unless you pay, and wanted extra money for that one hour, even though there were plenty of vacant rooms and he knew I was in a desperate situation. My family has owned and run a small motel for 25 years, so I find it baffling that someone like this has stayed in hospitality for any length of time. There was nothing hospitable about it. If being treated like a person matters to you, steer clear.
