The pool and free breakfast are great, and it's a nice place overall. My only complaint was the day manager, who was frustrating. When the walkways beside the pool got wet, he blamed the kids for jumping in and wanted them to stop, though that wasn't the problem. Rugs and fans were what was needed. He also complained about noise while two parents were trying to calm their special needs child during a meltdown. They were handling it, and he didn't need to make a fuss and make them feel bad.

The room smelled so bad it made me nauseous, and I wouldn't even sit on the furniture. It was neglected: the AC didn't work properly, the smoke detector hung from the ceiling, there was soot on the wall above the baseboard heater, and bathroom tile was coming up. Staff weren't helpful and seemed to want to be left alone. Breakfast was old bagels, dry cereal, a couple pieces of fruit, and some packaged Aldi-type foods. They make you pay for the entire stay before handing over the key, and there's no refund if your plans change and you need to leave early. A horrible place to stay.

I used to choose this hotel when visiting lovely Waupaca, but I won't stay again. I've been coming long enough to know what to expect, yet each visit seems more disappointing. The main building had no available rooms, so we were put in the far-back outside building, the 200 building. I don't recall seeing it open in past years, and now I understand why. It was filthy: disgusting carpet, a nonworking TV remote, an overwhelming stench, and roaches. I can tolerate a lot and keep expectations low, but I have limits, especially with my wife and 4 1/2 year old son there. Thankfully our 1 year old daughter wasn't with us. I reported it to the front desk. The associate apologized and called the off-duty manager, who was supposed to be in the next morning. When I went to speak with them, they weren't there. The associate checking us out didn't seem interested in fixing the problem and tried to say this sort of thing should be understandable and tolerable. I'm about 99.9% - 1,000,000% sure roaches aren't part of a hotel package, at least on Earth. I left my contact information and was told the manager wasn't feeling well and probably wouldn't be in that day, but they'd call me back. That was almost two weeks ago, and no one has. I've stayed at the nearby Ramada before and would recommend it. It has a nicer pool with a kiddie section, a bigger arcade, water slides, and it's much cleaner with no roaches. It costs a few dollars more, but you're worth it.

The staff were really friendly, but I wouldn't stay here again. The floor was so dirty we had to wipe our feet before getting into bed. There was also a huge wad of black hair in the bathtub, even though neither of us has black hair.

Roaches for roommates! I only wish I'd taken a picture to prove it. The night receptionist was the only one who seemed to care. We asked to move rooms or get some kind of compensation, but were told that couldn't happen that night, so we had no choice but to stay in that infested room. We expected to speak with the manager, Julie, at checkout as we were told, or to get a call, but nothing. She clearly doesn't understand basic customer service. We're low-key people and know this isn't the Ritz, but we've stayed here for close to 15 years, even before it was bought by econolodge, and have never been this disappointed. All the regulars are gone, and things don't seem to run as smoothly. The property manager or owner should be ashamed to operate such a dirty, disgusting hotel in a beautiful, charming little town.
