Waynesville Inn and Golf Club, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

The golf course views were exactly what I'd hoped for in Waynesville, and the setting is stunning. The rooms, though, were cramped. With more than a carry-on, floor space would be hard to find. I could hear full conversations and TV shows through the thin walls from both rooms beside me all night. The bathroom layout was baffling. The toilet sat so close to the wall, with maybe 12 inches of clearance at most, that I had to sit sideways to use it. It felt more like a cramped dorm than a resort. Staff didn't make the stay any easier. At both check-in and the restaurant, we stood waiting to be acknowledged while employees chatted with each other or seemed to ignore the front desk. I wanted to love the place, but the views were the only thing it had going for it. Unless you're here just for golf and intend to sleep in your car, I'd look elsewhere. The scenery isn't worth the lack of privacy or the awkward bathroom situation.

The breakfast spread was delicious, and the amenities were top-notch. Everyone on staff was so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We had a fantastic stay and are already looking forward to coming back.

Waynesville and western North Carolina are beautiful. We love the area. We were here more than 20 years ago, and since then it's been acquired by Hilton and the inn and course have had a major renovation. The rooms in the main lodge are the best, with beautiful woodwork and easy access to a great bar and grill. We enjoyed wings, trout, and half-price wine on Wednesday. The course looks great, though I had trouble justifying the $200 green fee. Maybe after a few drinks I could convince myself to put it on my bucket list. A classic resort.

Scott, the manager, and Reed, his assistant, were a big help to my family and me during our stay this past weekend. We didn't know the area, and both men suggested great places to visit and eat while we were in town. We'll definitely be back.
