Super 8 by Wyndham Weatherford

The room smelled odd, so I checked the AC filters and found them coated in grime. There were stains all over the place, including the sheets, pillows, shower curtain, and body wash dispenser. The bedding had holes and was worn out. We paid for two people but got one set of towels, and the front desk didn’t want to give us more. We were lucky to get one small towel. We also had to chase down a flying wasp in the room. After we brought it to the front desk, nobody checked for nests or offered another room. It took late into the night to kill it, so we asked for a little more time to check out and pack, but the guy was rude and gave us only 30 extra minutes. Breakfast was just a waffle maker and waffle batter. Don’t waste your money here. They don’t care about anything but getting paid.

This was our second year staying here while we came to town for our annual "Christmas at the Castle" event at Texas Pythian Home for Children. We brought six rooms, and every one was clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful. A few board directors also stay here when we have our quarterly meeting.

The room was clean and check-in was quick. There are lots of shops and places to eat within walking distance, which made the location great. I skipped breakfast because the selection was so small. That was disappointing, and it’s the reason I didn’t give five stars.

I’d read complaints about dirty rooms, but room 116 was very clean and looked modern. I liked the laminate floors, much better than carpet that can feel stained and sticky, and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The front desk staff and the housekeeper I met were both friendly and helpful. The property also seemed safe, with cameras throughout the building and facing the parking areas. Breakfast was okay for an $85 room. They had a waffle maker, a few cereals, and bread for toast, but no butter or jelly, so the toast would be dry. There might have been muffins earlier, but none were left by 8 am. I had two elderly companions with me and didn’t want to make waffles for all of us, so we went to Cracker Barrel across the interstate instead. I’d recommend staying here and would book Super 8 again if I’m in the area.
