Best Western Plus Elgin - Chicago

The staff were welcoming and seemed glad we chose the hotel. Breakfast was the usual sort of spread, with good coffee, well-cooked eggs, and a nice range of options. Our room and bathroom were spotless, and all the furniture looked like new. The bathroom felt cramped, and having the sink outside it wasn’t ideal for us, though neither was a deal breaker. The beds were comfortable, and the linens and pillows were soft. The towels felt a little rough, but they were very clean, which matters more to me. We’ll definitely come back when visiting our son. Highly recommend it.

The room was nice and cute inside during the day, for the most part, and the beds were comfortable, I guess. At night I felt uneasy. There were people outside yelling and screaming, and after I saw two sketchy-looking people walk away from my car, I moved it from beside my room to the front of the building. I opened the curtain because they were so close and there were no other cars parked near us. I thought they might try to break in. There were too many strange, sketchy people around at night, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The staff were friendly, but check-in was difficult and they said their systems were slow. I didn’t think much of it at the time. The stay was supposed to cost $195, plus a $100 damage deposit that they said would be returned after checkout. I thought that was normal then, but now I suspect the deposit may be a way to get small amounts from people who won’t notice. They charged my card $295. After checkout, the transaction disappeared from my bank app, as though they had refunded the full stay, which confused me. The next morning, I called the bank and noticed a $37.79 charge from “googlesmartv.” I only use an iPhone and don’t have any Google subscriptions. Then the hotel took back the $195 and refunded the $100. I don’t understand how they still had my card details to change the charges, even days later after I’d changed everything. After reading the transactions, I suspect they took my card information when I tapped it. I don’t trust them and think they’re scamming people. Be careful, and pay cash if you can.

I stayed here in late August 2025. Only recently did I notice that charges to PayPal started appearing on my business card within a day or two of the stay, then continued for months. I use that card only for hotel rooms, gas at the pump, and business supplies from hardware stores. After reading another review, I believe someone at the front desk may have taken my card number. Be careful.

The staff were great, and the little courtyard outside is adorable. I had a really good stay and would come back if I’m in the area again. The room was nice, though a few small maintenance things could use attention, and the bed was fantastic. The location is a bit unusual and took some figuring out, but I found it pretty quickly.
