The Wilshire Grand Hotel

The staff were super friendly, check-in was easy, and there were three parking lots. The lobby felt welcoming and smelled nice, with coffee or popcorn around. Breakfast was free and pretty basic, but the waffle iron worked, which made me happy. I also liked the gardens and hoped to borrow bikes to see town, though none were available. The restaurant on site has closed, and the new banquet hall isn't a restaurant. The hotel itself was beautiful, with spacious rooms and bathrooms. Our king bed had plenty of space, but wasn't very comfortable. There was a computer table my husband liked, and the TV seemed small for the room. The curtains blocked all the light. Internet was best on weekends and spotty on weekdays. The bathroom was clean and came with bath salts, but the tub wouldn't seal for a bath and you had to hold the toilet handle down for it to flush all the way. We ran out of toilet paper and were told housekeeping had left for the day. The toiletries are small, not enough for long hair. A nice ice pail, two crystal glasses, and two bottles of water with the hotel name on their wrappers were provided. There's a patio with a gas grill for anyone who wants to cook meat. Overall, it was a very nice stay.

I visited the banquet halls and was pleasantly surprised by how elegant and spacious they were. The hotel and venue are only steps apart, which seems handy for a wedding with guests coming from out of town. It could also work well for elderly guests since much of it is on one floor with minimal steps.

The biggest safety concern was that my cousin arrived later, went into his assigned room, and found a stranger inside with belongings spread around. Another cousin waited over an hour just to get a towel. These problems added to a stressful family stay and a lack of accountability from the staff. It began when my mother, who has a serious back condition, asked for extra pillows so she could sleep. Staff flatly refused without trying to help or showing empathy. Her room had a king bed and a rollaway, but the rollaway didn't even come with a pillow. When she called the front desk to explain, staff escalated things, accused her of being racist, and spoke to her with outright disrespect. That accusation was baseless and offensive. She's one of the kindest people you'll meet and would never suggest anything like that. The way the staff handled it was unprofessional, inappropriate, and disturbing. Between the poor service, cleanliness and safety concerns, and disrespect, the hotel failed on basic hospitality. What should have been a routine stay became upsetting for my whole family. Don't stay here. There are far better nearby options that value their guests.

I had doubts after reading other reviews, but I'm glad to say I had no complaints. The hotel was spotless and smelled good, my room was tidy and up to date, and everything worked. I have a hard time believing all the negative comments. I'd recommend staying here.
