The room itself may be acceptable for the price, but I left feeling misled and badly treated. Before booking, I called with questions about the shared bathrooms, the AC complaints, how much light came into the rooms, nearby construction, and whether the room assignment affected any of that. The man I spoke with, who sounded young, said my concerns weren't warranted and that the room choice made no difference. That wasn't true. During my one night there, the neon light lit up the room completely, the AC was extremely loud and kept cutting in and out, and I had to use a bathroom shared with other guests even though I expected a private one. Nearby construction woke me early, though it wasn't terribly loud. They offered to try moving me to a room with its own bathroom the next day. I asked by email, without demanding it, whether I could get part of the cost back for the remaining nights since I'd been given wrong information. Manager Michael Omar Frazier replied with accusatory comments. I was at a physicians conference and didn't have time for an email argument, so I called instead. I tried 3-4 times over a few hours after he said he'd be in by 11am, but he wasn't there and never called back. The front desk woman said she'd pass on a message, but first blamed me for booking the wrong room and said I didn't understand how window AC units worked. It was a shameful experience, though my colleagues did get a good laugh when I told them how much it felt like a bad comedy movie.

The staff were friendly, though the front desk was sometimes unattended, and there’s a street cat that likes to hang around the hotel. Brightline is very close, and Amtrak isn’t far either. The beach takes about a 40 minute walk. I booked at the last minute, so my rate was a little steep, but the place is usually very affordable. The interiors aren't modern, which gives them some charm. I chose a smoking room and was glad it didn't have that musty smell. There’s a mini fridge and microwave, but no kettle, unfortunately.

Room 104 had its own bathroom and was VERY clean and quiet for our two-night stay. The staff were AWESOME, welcoming, and informative. I know I'm a hotel snob, and the reviews had made me skeptical, but I'm really glad I trusted my instinct and booked here. The location is AMAZING, one block from downtown fun. It felt safe, and parking was free after 9 right outside the hotel, with plenty of longer-term parking around the area. I liked the big dining table in the lobby, where some guests ate. It gave the place the feel of staying at an auntie's house, and a slower, simpler kind of visit. At a reasonable downtown Palm Beach price, this is a good place to lay your head. I'd suggest getting a room with a private bathroom like ours. I'd highly recommend it and will definitely come back.

The location is hard to beat, and for the price it's good value. It's an old-school hotel, turning 100 this year, so some wear and issues are to be expected. The rooms are small and clean, except the ceiling fan looked like it hadn't been wiped in months. There are lots of metered parking spaces nearby, and you can pay online, so there's no need to go out at odd hours to feed a meter. The bathrooms could use some simple improvements that aren't really about the building's age. The porcelain tub is slippery without adhesive strips, there's no grab bar, and the door has nowhere to hang towels or robes. There's enough space, but no bathroom mirror, so putting on makeup means going out into the main room. Small changes like these wouldn't cost much and would improve the stay.
