Americinn West Salem

The pool was out of service, and the tub in our room wasn't working either. The TV also didn't work, and some bulbs were missing. We had booked a one-bedroom king suite two weeks ahead, but were checked into a cheaper room instead. When we pointed out the mistake, the attendant said our booked room was out of service and the room we got was all that was available. He offered money back only after we noticed the difference. We left and asked for a refund. He said to request it through Expedia and promised he would accept it, but when Expedia sent the request, the hotel denied it. We also had to deal with the wrong room after arriving. Save your time and money, stay somewhere else.

The pool was clean and relaxing, and there were lots of breakfast choices. Check-in was easy thanks to the polite front desk staff. The hotel was well kept, clean, and quiet, so we had a comfortable, pleasant stay. Thank you!

You could hear everything from the hallways and parking lot through the thin walls. The TV reception kept cutting in and out, the door wouldn't lock, and there weren't any ice machines. Breakfast was sparse and unappetizing. When we first opened the room, there was a really nasty smell, maybe from a cleaning product. I also found a used plastic cup under the air vent, so that area clearly hadn't been vacuumed. The sink was dirty, and there were stains on the wall by the TV. I can't recommend this place.

Our stay itself was fine, though the hotel was busy with lots of hockey kids, which didn't bother me. What did bother me was being charged $35 because my son spilled red soda on the sheet. They said it was ruined, but better laundry detergent should be able to handle that. There was also a small chocolate smudge on the sheet, which I can only assume they thought was poop. Maybe they figured the red stain was blood, but it was soda. Bleach should get that out of white sheets. We left a tip of probably $5 to $10 between us, which isn't much, but we always try to leave something for housekeeping. This hotel may have put us off doing that anywhere.
