Best Western Stateline Lodge

The room looked clean and orderly, but after our showers the carpet smelled like feet. Noise from the room above kept going late into the night; calling the desk around 11 didn't help, so I turned up the TV until I could fall asleep. The advertised breakfast was mostly gone by about 8, with only instant oatmeal, hot chocolate, and tea left. I came for waffles, but there wasn't even a waffle maker. The price was listed as $89.99 and I was told I wouldn't be charged until check-in, but they charged me beforehand. There was no way on the booking site to add my pets and pay that fee, so the amount became $105 on arrival, then another $150 for the pets. An extra key and late checkout were each another $25. I booked four nights but stopped after one, and the refund process was still unresolved by the third day. For my birthday, this stay was a real letdown. It promised much more than it delivered.

We'd happily come back. Our room was quiet and spotless, the bed was comfortable, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful.

Breakfast is the problem this morning. Our group of 16 booked ahead, submitted the food forms, and spread out our meal times, but we're still sitting here waiting for more food to come out. One person is covering both the front desk and meal prep. They don't offer waffles during the week, either. We have one night left, so I may update this depending on how things go.

I booked four nights based on the 8.2 reviews, but stayed only one. The mattress sagged badly and had uncomfortable lumps, and there were bugs in the room. I barely slept. I flew in from California and found the place felt more like a motel than a hotel. I paid over $119 a night and contacted Expedia about getting my money back. The manager said two nights' credit could take up to 10 business days, while the policy won't reimburse the nights I didn't stay. By the third day, I still hadn't received the refund. I asked the manager about it because I felt the rating was misleading, based on customer surveys rather than actual reviews. This was a horrible experience, and the place didn't live up to its rating.
