Berkshire Travel Lodge

The air conditioning gets wonderfully cold, but that was the one bright spot for me. The sheets smelled really bad, and spiders were everywhere: in the bed and bathroom, on the microwave and by the lamp, even above you in the shower. I'm not joking. If you're broke and can't afford a decent place, maybe this is for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't stay here.

The manager was kind and had stayed up late to let us in, so I expected the room to be better. It was a shelter from the storm, but I wouldn't choose it for a honeymoon. There was dust and hair on top of the beds, and the room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I didn't want to walk around barefoot. I found bird poop on my pillow and under the bed, then discovered a barely alive bird in the room that seemed to have been there for a week or two. We got the sick bird outside, but later found it dead.

After 12 exhausting hours driving through rain and darkness, we arrived hoping for somewhere warm and clean. The room was filthy: used towels still hung in the bathroom, bugs and spiders crawled on the sheets, and everything smelled musty and unclean. It didn't look as though anyone had properly cleaned the place in a long time. When we raised our concerns, the front desk attendant seemed drunk, slurred their words, stumbled around, and was rude. We asked for even a partial refund and were refused, with no apology or solution. It was late, storming, and we were too exhausted to go elsewhere, so we had no choice but to stay. This place should be shut down for health and safety violations. Keep driving, or sleep in your car. I wouldn't want my worst enemy spending a night in this dump.

For two nights, the motel gave me what I needed: a clean, basic room with a bathroom, microwave, mini fridge, and TV. The manager was friendly and helpful. My only gripe was that the bath towels were a bit small. It's an adequate place to crash, with I-90 access and three gas stations within a three-minute radius.
