Chicago Club Inn & Suites

I stayed for five days in December, and by near the end of January my deposit still hadn't come back. When I called, I was told it could take up to 14 days, but it had been well over that. The staff were rude and unprofessional. Room 263 was spacious, but it smelled of pesticides, and yellowish-brown drips ran down every wall from ceiling to floor. I'm a contractor and have seen homes treated for pests, so I know what that looked like. We had to scrub the walls, doors, floors, dresser, tables, shower, toilet, counters, and tub ourselves. Housekeeping didn't keep things clean. The walls had grime and stains, the grout was coming out between the ceramic tiles, and some tiles were cracked. The bathroom hair dryer was badly damaged, with pieces falling off when removed from its holder. Its plug was melted and broken, with a prong missing, which was hazardous. Bathroom bulbs were burned out, so I got replacements from the front desk and installed them myself. The computer chair was stained as if someone had had an accident on it. When we reported it, the front desk called maintenance on soesker phone, and we could hear him complain about coming to swap chairs. There was no streaming service. The shower controls were reversed, with hot and cold on opposite settings. The mini fridge smelled musty and was missing racks inside the door. Key cards usually failed at the entry door, and replacement cards also had trouble opening our room. Never staying here again.

For the price, it wasn't a bad room. A few spots needed repairs and more attention to cleaning, but the bed was fairly comfortable and the fleece blanket layer felt really soft. The closet was a good size, and the vanity had nice lighting. The hot tub was the best part of the room. It was clean, had extra towels, and all the jets worked. The water wasn't overly chlorinated, and it drained and dried quickly.

I've stayed here several times in the past six months, and on my last visit they upgraded me to a large apartment-like unit. The place offers good value for the price, and the rooms are clean. The bathroom mirrors are better than at a nearby hotel that cost me three times as much. It's not fancy, but the location feels safe. There's no elevator to the second floor, and breakfast is included, though there's no fresh fruit. There's also a breakfast restaurant across the street. The included breakfast is hood. Five stars for value.

We booked two days because I wanted the jacuzzi, but the stay was a letdown. The jet tub was the only thing that seemed nice and clean. The bed wasn't comfortable, and I slept badly on the pillows. The strip lights flickered, as did the bathroom lights. Even when we turned the strips off, they flashed red during the night. The windows don't open for fresh air, and the AC unit was dusty and had dead ants in it. The walls were dirty too. The shower went from briefly hot to cooler as I turned the dial, and the body soap dispenser gave me only one squirt, so I had to use shampoo. We missed breakfast, though I doubt it would've been good. We're checking out early and going somewhere else. I'm not coming back.
