The Harbor Inn turned out to be a great base for beaches, restaurants, and other recreation, and the historic house itself gave us a different kind of stay. We enjoyed relaxing with wine on the porch and chatting with the other guests in the evening. The shared dining and bathroom facilities are something to be prepared for, but Catherine, our host and chef, made them part of what made the experience special. We’d spent the summer exploring the Southern New England coast, with some of our most memorable beach and shore visits, and wanted a break from ordinary hotels and motels for our last getaway of the season. We were pleasantly surprised. We feel lucky to have found the Harbor Inn and will surely return.

The Harbor Inn is my favorite vacation spot by far. In Acoaxet, it’s just a two to three minute walk from the nearest beach, and the beaches there are among the finest on the East Coast. Staying here feels like sharing the kind of experiences sailors had in the 1800s. The staff make you feel like part of the Steinke family. I can’t say enough about the value of a vacation here. I’d absolutely recommend it, and I’ve already planned to bring family and friends next summer.

I’ve been coming to Westport since I was a kid, and I still return as an adult. There’s something about the place that makes you feel you belong and want to come back. The Harbor Inn has a spirit and personality unlike anywhere else I’ve visited. The family who owns it are welcoming and pleasant, and their environmental care helps preserve Westport as the jewel it is. Some of the outdoor things I’ve enjoyed include swimming at the beach, jumping off elephant of rock, diving for claims, snorkeling in horseshoe bay, biking, and kayaking. Staying here has given me some of my best memories, and I plan to make more. Make sure you visit, there’s no other place like it. -Michael Nick
