Driftwood Suites

I travel for work and have easily stayed in 200 hotels. I only bother leaving a review when a place stands out, and this motel did. The man working there was so friendly, especially after I called other places and got one guy who couldn't understand me and hung up. The room smelled good, the carpet was clean, and the heat and AC both worked well. At another motel I'd stayed in, there was no thermostat in the room and the hot water didn't come on until after 8 p.m. I'd have stayed longer if I could. It's rare to find a nice motel at this price with such friendly people, and they even beat Priceline's price, which was actually higher.

There were six of us, and we all fit in one roomy, very clean room with three queen beds and a futon. We were really pleased with the stay and would come back.

The staff were so kind throughout our stay, and when we had trouble with the hot water, the front desk fixed it as soon as we let them know. We came for three nights over Memorial Day weekend and drove eight hours to get there. We arrived after the first night's check-in time, but the gentleman at the counter said it was no problem because he'd be there all night. The motel and room were charming, with pastel furniture and a bathroom I loved, especially the spa tub. We saw no bed bugs or other bugs at all. The price felt a little high, though we'd booked late for the holiday weekend, so that's on us. We'd definitely return. I can't say enough about how great the staff were.

The rooms are dated, and for what we paid, I expected better. The refrigerator wasn't plugged in, and there was a bug inside it. Ants were crawling around the bathroom too. The room was cold, and the bed was so uncomfortable that we woke up aching after sinking into the middle. My boyfriend and I had a long drive ahead, but we had to leave earlier than planned. I don't understand how anyone could give this place five stars.
