The views across the waterfront toward Lazarus Island are spectacular, and you’d hardly know the hotel is right by the 101 because the guest rooms are so quiet. The Old Wheeler Hotel has high ceilings, a spacious bathroom, and an unbelievably comfortable bed. Our host showed us around the common areas before taking us to our room, and was wonderful. I slept like a baby. Thanks, Katie. I can’t wait to return.

The common room has a beautiful view, and I left feeling peaceful and restored. I come to Oregon for vacation every year around my birthday, and after a few problems at a motel in Seaside, I called around. Katie made me feel comfortable right away. I only booked one night and wish I could have stayed the whole time. She was very accommodating, and I loved the decor. Starting next year, this is where I’ll stay, unless I can find extra vacation time before then.

The Old Wheeler hotel has a cool backstory and lots of history, which is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. There are YouTube videos, documentaries, and interviews about the hotel being haunted, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Please don’t put quotation marks around “my experience.” I’m not the only person who had similar experiences, and a podcast about mine will be coming out shortly. You won’t find me on the reservation because it wasn’t booked under my name.

I didn’t know the hotel was said to be haunted when my partner booked it. As soon as we walked in, we both felt the presence of spirits. The building used to be a clinic before it was remodeled into a hotel. During the night, the gentleman spirit who used to have our room seemed to make it clear, in several ways, that we weren’t welcome. We left at 3 a.m. and called the host to say something had happened that we couldn’t explain and we had to go. He told us we weren’t the only ones leaving that evening, another couple had seen a face in their bathroom mirror and run out screaming. I learned afterward that the host was a medium himself. The service was great, and he understood what was happening and wanted to make sure we were okay before we drove home scared, like we’d just seen a ghost. Pun intended. It’s a cute place with a Victorian feel, and I could write a much longer account of what happened.

My husband and I had room 7, with its gorgeous tile bathroom, and all the rooms looked stunning. The owners had put welcome signs on each door. I spent the weekend with friends who rented the entire hotel, a beautiful space full of character and history. The common area has a lovely view of the bay. I’d recommend it and stay again.
