Wilkes Barre Lodge

After a long day of travel, I found the room quiet, clean, and comfortable, just what I needed. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and check-in and check-out were easy. The location also made it simple to get to nearby restaurants and shops. Everything worked as it should, and the calm atmosphere was much appreciated. I’d happily stay at the Wilkes-Barre Lodge again and recommend it as an affordable, solid option in the area.

The room was small but just right for two. The king bed was comfortable and firm, the blankets cozy, the bathroom nice, and the shower pressure adequate. Parking right in front of the room was handy, and the front office woman was wonderfully friendly. When I asked for a late checkout, she readily let us stay until 1 pm, even though the usual checkout is 11 am and late checkout is normally 12 pm. I did miss having a coffee maker and a toilet paper holder. The paper was sitting on the back of the toilet, which I didn’t like, but it was an easy fix and didn’t spoil the room. There were a few small paint nicks, barely noticeable. We found this motel online, read the reviews, and decided to try it. The hospitality was excellent.

The online photos gave a misleading impression. The motel sits beside an abandoned building with boarded-up windows and doors, and the area felt terrible. People who live there hang around on the balconies. We decided not to stay because of the condition and location, but the owner charged us for the full stay when we waited until arrival to cancel. I guess the room couldn’t be rented out on a Saturday night. I’m glad we left, since I wouldn’t want to bring home anything I hadn’t arrived with. The photos seem like the only way to draw customers who don’t live there full time. There are plenty of nice places in Wilkes Barre. This place is not one of them. Drive on by, fast!

Really friendly service, and it was the cleanest hotel I’ve ever been in. I’d definitely recommend it to friends and family.
