Days Inn Williamsburg Colonial Area

For a no-frills, good-value place to sleep while visiting local attractions with my family, this hotel works well. I’ve stayed twice and had no problems either time. It’s in a handy spot and the price is what wins me over; I’ll probably come back on my next trip to Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. The rooms are showing their age, but they were clean enough. Breakfast was nice and the staff were good. The Wi-Fi wasn’t great, though that wasn’t what brought me here.

The price was low, and the hotel felt pretty rough when I stayed about two and a half years ago. My blanket had what looked like coffee or urine stains, the sink was clogged, and there was no microwave until I called and they brought one. We complained and got a coupon for one free night, but it could only be used at that same Days Inn. Breakfast was great and the location was good. It might work for a single night, but whether I’d recommend it depends on why and how long you’re staying.

We’d booked months ahead and asked for two rooms for our family with small children. At check-in, the desk worker seemed confused and wouldn’t look at us. He first said there weren’t two empty rooms next to each other, but after we explained why we needed that, he found a pair. The rooms smelled almost unbearable. Ceilings were falling in several spots, the bathroom looked unclean and had mold, and both comforters had huge stains. The sockets and plugs looked like the place might catch fire at any moment. We were near the lobby, but had no cell service in the rooms, and the free internet didn’t work there either. We had to stand in the hallway to get online. We planned to stay four nights, but after the first one we cancelled the rest and moved to a nearby hotel.

The staff were wonderful and the price was great. Our nonsmoking room had a bit of a smoke smell, though I guess that can happen in hotels with smoking rooms. The bed was a little too firm for me, but it was a good mattress. Breakfast was on the small side and tasted good.
