My wife and I first stayed there in 1986, just after our wedding, before heading to Florida. They gave us a lovely large suite for much less than I expected, and I think they cut us a deal. We returned often for special occasion dinners, and once I took a musician client there to hear him play. My wife's little sister also had her wedding reception there. At some point in the 1990s, the experience started slipping and the restaurant atmosphere became less fancy. The last time we went, the restaurant was closed, so we gave up on the place.
We slept well in the very comfortable beds, and the front desk handled noise from next door. The indoor pool and hot tub were nice, while the outdoor pool was closed. Breakfast was continental, with more options on weekends. The hotel is undergoing renovations, so I’m reluctant to give it a poor review. We had a comfortable stay and I’d come back.
The staff did their best with limited resources. They were great to deal with and even moved me to a better room during a busy weekend. The rooms, though, were disgusting. They smelled of smoke and mildew, the mattress didn’t look or feel clean, and I never felt clean there. The provided soap was awful, so I had to order my own toiletries. Carpets and signs were coming off, the hallways were dark, bugs were in the common area, and musty smells were everywhere. I never saw coffee or a breakfast bar. The affordable price and average ratings I saw on my travel portal weren’t worth it. I would’ve left for another hotel if prices hadn’t spiked so much in the area that day. I stayed here decades ago and remember a nice, peaceful visit. I won’t return, and I believe I read that it will be closing. It needs to.
The staff were very nice, and the beds were comfy. Our room wasn’t bad, just dated, and had a chair. The bathroom was extremely tiny, so be careful if you’re claustrophobic. This huge hotel means you’ll probably have a long walk to your room, and the indoor pool is quite a hike too. The outdoor pool was a hike to nowhere, since we were talking about the indoor pool, but be prepared for the walk. Breakfast was almost nothing: the waffle maker barely worked, and there were no eggs, just cereal. The place badly needs renovation. Some people say it’s haunted, and we had one creepy moment, seeing a ghost-like man walking down a really long hallway. If that sort of thing freaks you out, be cautious. All in all, the stay wasn’t bad, though it felt a little creepy sometimes.
The lobby looked nice, and the simple continental breakfast was adequate, but the hotel fell far short of the photos and our expectations. In the first room, the TV didn’t work, the fridge was dirty with dried residue on the shelves, the hair dryer was broken, and the carpet was visibly stained. The front desk kindly moved us, which I appreciated, but problems continued. The hair dryer in room two was also broken. I called the front desk on my personal phone because the room phone didn’t work. Someone said they’d come deal with it, but nobody showed up. We also found a pillowcase with a hole, cobwebs in the corners, more stained carpet, and, worst of all, cockroaches in the room. This place could be a great stay, but management clearly isn’t prioritizing cleanliness, room upkeep, or guest satisfaction. Until there are major improvements, I strongly recommend avoiding it.
