Super 8 Willowbrook

The room was dirty, smelled awful, and the bed was uncomfortable. It's very outdated, too. The chair was so grimy that I wiped just the arms with their washcloths, and they came away completely brown. The night clerk had terrible body odor, and the lobby smelled the same. The pool shuts at 8 pm and gets chained off, which is ridiculous. Police come through every night. Gee, I wonder why. I guess you get what you pay for, though these days that isn't much.

We booked a week for the extended rate because this was the cheapest hotel around when my men and I stayed from Sept. 23rd -Sept. 29th 2012. I regretted that choice. My first room had fruit flies that multiplied every day, and black mold covered the bathroom ceiling. On day three I asked to move. The desk clerk showed me two rooms: one had no lamp shades, and the other seemed okay with no bugs, but still had black mold in several parts of the bathroom and on the ceilings. Then, at 1:38AM on the last night, some jerk nearby pulled the fire alarm. I got no sleep before getting up at 4AM for work in downtown Chicago. When I told the clerk why we were leaving, including the terrible rooms and alarm, he asked what compensation I wanted. I asked him to comp the last night, but after talking to his manager he offered only 10% off a future stay at a Super 8. Probably the worst hotel experience I've had. The Super 8's free wifi never worked all week; there was a note at the desk saying it was down, and they didn't fix it, so nobody there had internet. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Red Roof Inn up the street. It had clean rooms, microwaves and a fridge, a flat-screen TV, HBO, Wifi, and really friendly staff.

This place totally sucked. We couldn't understand the staff, and they charged us $10 each for a fridge and a microwave. The free breakfast wasn't worth getting up for.

They told us it isn't a Super 8 anymore, that they're with CHOICE HOTELS now, and that they've changed the name to ECONO LODGE.
