Fairfield Inn & Suites Winnemucca

I'm a Diamond Hilton Honors member and travel constantly. I recently joined Marriott too, and I'm only a few nights from Gold. The staff are doing the best they can with what the owner has given them, but it feels like the owner is too cheap to make guests comfortable. All three ice machines, one on each level, were out. The front desk told me they'd been down for several days, and there wasn't any ice in the hotel at all. Laundry was another hassle: one small washer and one small dryer for the whole hotel, in a dirty room. There was a line, and I finally got a load done at 1 a.m. There's space for another washer and dryer, which could save guests from spending four hours checking whether it's their turn. Because I was up doing laundry, I called the front desk four times from my room to add a day, but nobody answered. I tried again at 8:30 a.m., then went down and was told the phone system wasn't working at all. Housekeeping misses things too. The telephone was so gross I cleaned it with baby wipes before using it. All three ice machines being broken at once, and the phone system not working, make it seem like the owner isn't concerned. I'd seen another review mention that calls went unanswered too. This could be a nice place with a little money spent on it. Maybe the owner will see this and fix these issues. It's well below the standard I've had at other Marriotts.

Use the door latch, always. I checked in alone at 12:30 a.m., and at 2 a.m. someone opened my door, turned on the lights, said sorry, and left. I don't know if my room was double-booked or if someone was watching me. My partner and his son had arrived about 20 minutes after I checked in, so I wasn't alone when it happened. My partner confronted the person coming in, and they apologized and left. When I called to reserve, I was told it was the last room available, so I can't figure out how it could have been double-booked, especially at 2 a.m. It's a very weird situation that needs looking into, and the night crew needs to be more careful. I told the front desk in the morning. She apologized, but didn't seem very concerned about finding out what happened. Who had a key to my room, and why?

I expected more for a $250 stay. The room was small, with a king bed, and the lights flickered. The bathroom was a bit dirty, especially the toilet, which needed a good scrub. Room service may also have left an unclean plunger right beside it, as you can see from its handle in the pictures. The pillows were small, like Motel 6 pillows, and very uncomfortable. The ice machines on two floors didn't work. I had to search around and eventually found one working on the first floor. My fiancee worked at a Marriot hotel, and this stay was well below that standard. Also, Google Maps sent me to a different address, though it was close to the hotel.

Rooms were great and the beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast was enough for us. A good enough road-trip stay, no complaints. I'd come back and recommend it to anyone.
