We liked the game room, though several games, including ping pong and air hockey, need maintenance. The location near the mountain is great, but our room needs a deep clean at the very least, and probably a major renovation. It looked fine at first, then we found standing water under the sink and dust everywhere. The appliances all seemed to be from the 1980s. Something in the room, maybe mold or dust, really set off my allergies.
For a stay at Winter Park Resort, you get a heated pool, hot tubs, a gym, and direct access to the catwalk for skiing to the gondola. It’s the top spot to stay. Choose a remodeled room if you can, since many owners have updated their units. Some older ones are still decent, though.
The unit was nice, but quite dated, and the elevator and hot tubs only work now and then. The steam room was out of order, and there’s no restaurant at the resort. City buses aren’t especially reliable or frequent. Most of all, beginners shouldn’t count on ski-in/ski-out access. It takes a lot of walking and poling to reach the gondola.
The hot tubs, game room, great views, and easy access to nearby attractions made this a fun place. It’s clean and cozy, and mostly pretty respectable. Your experience may depend on who else is staying there, though. Some people make noise and smells despite the sign clearly saying not to smoke or be loud after 10. Responsible renters are welcome, from what I hear.
The room was great for my husband and was fully stocked, though it’s a little walk to the trail. If it’s snowing, you’ll need to go all the way to the gondola. Don’t count on the shuttle: the people I spoke with were less than helpful, and Phil was rude and obnoxious. We caught a Green Line bus instead, and “Sarg” was amazing and helpful, getting us back to Ironhorse.
