I’m physically and mentally disabled, and this stay left me upset and sick to my stomach. The owner’s response to my fiancée’s review was harsh, false, and hard to make sense of. We stayed three nights. I work with my fiancée at a restaurant, so on the third day we had to leave around 3 p.m. and didn’t get back until 11 p.m. My service animal had stayed in the room with cool air, fresh water, and food. Leaving him in the car while we worked wasn’t an option. He’s professionally trained, well behaved, loves people, and doesn’t bark at humans or animals. The claim that he was barking at people is absurd. We’d left the do not disturb sign on the door, and the only reason he might have barked is if someone entered anyway. The checkout morning, the owner called at 10:30 to remind us of checkout time. That would have been fine, but at 10:45 the phone rang three times, then someone knocked and called “housekeeping.” It was the owner, who kept knocking for about 5-10 minutes while we stayed quiet because we felt uncomfortable. After he left, we opened the door and saw he’d turned the do not disturb sign to maid service, apparently to make entering seem acceptable while my fiancée was showering. When I went to check out, I was sitting on my walker with my service animal calmly beside me. The owner came around the desk and said loudly and clearly, “leave the card and get out.” So I did.

The posted check-in sign told us to pick up the phone and, if nobody answered, go knock on room 101. I’m not going to someone’s room to get checked in. It took us about ten minutes to decide to leave the keys in the room and book elsewhere. We knew we’d have to pay for the night, but staying at the Hotel Mead was worth it. The room itself was in awful shape. It was meant to be non-smoking but smelled of cigarettes and felt stuffy. The baseboards looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years, there was a brown ring under the toilet rim, and the furniture was worn out. There’s no elevator, the pool was out of service, and the advertised restaurant was just a couple of vending machines and lobby tables. A week later the owner made excuses about the room smell, but had nothing to say about the dirty baseboards or toilet. We were charged $150 for a room we didn’t stay in. The night before, we’d paid $136.00 at the Lake of Torches casino for a lovely room with a pool and restaurant. I’ve stayed in many hotels, and for the price this Posh was the most disgusting I’ve seen. I wish I’d read the reviews before booking.

The location made it easy to explore the area, and the owner and staff were warm and attentive. Their personal service made me feel right at home. I had a fantastic stay.

We booked three nights, but after seeing the room we asked about the cancellation policy. We were told it required 24 hours’ notice, so we said we’d stay the first two nights and leave a day early. The owner then said there could be no refund for the third night because we’d already checked in. We paid $145 a night, and he argued with me that the place was clean. It was extremely dirty. Something had spilled down the front of the refrigerator, and the hair dryer mounted under the sink had what looked like vomit on it. The room smelled terrible, and the only towel bar was broken off the wall.
