Good value in a handy spot, about five minutes from Kernville and within walking distance of the lake. One thing to watch for: check-in is at a different hotel down the street. Our room was nice and had a fridge, microwave, toaster, and Keurig, though the Keurig didn’t work very well. We had a great stay and would come back.

We’ve been staying here ever since we started visiting Kern River, and we really like the place. The view is beautiful, especially at night, and the rooms are clean. Customer service has been excellent. There is a musty smell in the rooms, though. Opening the doors and windows when you arrive, or bringing a scented candle or air freshener, should clear it up. That’s the only downside we’ve noticed.

The owner is keeping the original atmosphere, which I thought was really cool. This was the best priced hotel I found in Lake Isabella.

Lake Shore Drive has houses to rent as well as rooms, something I hadn’t known even though I’ve lived in this Valley all my life. My son’s house flooded, so while contractors are working on it, he and his wife are staying in one of the rentals. I visited, and the house is beautiful. I believe it was called the three kings. It has three large bedrooms with king beds, vaulted ceilings, recessed lighting, and a great kitchen with a skylight. The master suite has a sunken tub, a huge bathroom, and a walk-in closet. If you’re displaced from home while repairs are underway, you can move into a lovely place with all the comforts of your own home. I don’t know how many houses they rent, but this one was great. I’d choose it over a room if I were staying with family or other couples. The rooms are nice, too, and have a little kitchen area. They were clean and spacious enough for my friends, with sliding glass doors opening onto a pleasant garden setting.

We had 12 people in our group, and the outdoor tables gave us plenty of room to gather. The covered patio was great for grilling and hanging out. It’s in a very quiet spot, and a nice place to watch the sunrise.
