Holiday Inn Express Asheville Woodfin by IHG

This is my go-to when I visit my daughter in Woodfin, and I just booked my fourth stay. I drive over every few months to see her and explore Asheville. I always choose the king suite and have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly, and when I decide to add a night or two, they happily arrange it and make sure I'm set. My daughter lives a mile away, but her place is small, so she sometimes stays with me. She loves the breakfast and all the choices. Staying here makes my Asheville visits much easier.

The breakfast staff were kind and helpful, the only redeeming part of my stay. I could hear people in the hall, dogs, and conversations from nearby rooms. The pool was cold, and maintenance tried to open my door without knocking while I was changing. Thankfully, I had the emergency lock on. At check-in, I gave a card for incidentals and was told the amount would be refunded at checkout. The assistant GM checked me out too and said there were no extra charges. Fifteen minutes after I left, I got an email charging me $50 for a pet fee. Nobody had mentioned that fee at either check-in or checkout. The assistant GM had no explanation and said they'd refund it, but two days later said they'd lost my information and couldn't issue the refund. Once I gave it again, they said they would. Instead, my credit card company emailed that I'd been charged another $100. I asked for the GM and was told they'd call that day, but they didn't. I called again the next day, and the GM promised a $150 refund and an email proving it had been processed. No email, no refund, no apology. I was out $150 and several hours of my time. Update: I got the refund after eight calls to the hotel, one chat with the corporate bot, and two calls to corporate.

The hotel was clean, and the person at the front desk was very nice. But if you want a good night's sleep, go somewhere else. At 1:40 a.m. I was still hearing people stomping around upstairs, and it kept me awake. I like relaxing with TV when I get in, and the channel selection here was so limited. I travel a lot and have never seen one with so few options. My parents' room beside mine didn't have a hair dryer, and a cabinet door was broken. I wouldn't stay here again.

Breakfast was a highlight, with hot eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, plus plenty of yogurt, honey and fresh fruit. The coffee was delicious too. Our room was spotless and smelled fresh, and the bed and soft, cozy pillows were so comfortable I didn't want to get up. The whole hotel felt calm and inviting. We had a fantastic stay at the Holiday Inn Express Asheville. The reception staff made me feel at home when we arrived on Sunday 21/25, and were friendly, professional and genuinely welcoming. It exceeded my expectations. I'd happily recommend it to anyone visiting Asheville for work or a getaway, and we'll stay again.
