Prairie Hotel

After a long trip, the room was such a quiet, clean place to rest, and it looked beautiful too. Amy was especially kind and helpful. I’m really grateful for the stay, and I’d definitely come back if I’m in the area again. Thanks, Prairie Hotel!

The way the owner handled my complaint made an already bad stay worse. When I spoke with her, she tried to persuade me to remove this review and said an employee had experienced an “invasion of privacy.” The office door was wide open, and the employee was asleep halfway off a couch in plain view from the hotel entry. Neither I nor anyone with me opened a door. We only knocked. It was frustrating to be locked out of our room, unable to find staff, and then accused of invading someone's privacy. I’m fairly sure the incapacitated employee was the owner. I have proof of my stay and of the incident. I’ve stayed here a few times before, and those visits were fine. It’s a lower end hotel with aging, somewhat smelly rooms. This time the cigarette smell hit me as soon as I walked into the lobby, and the room smelled strongly of it too. The front desk woman was rude and slow, acting like guests were a bother. The elevator was out of service, the beds weren't great, and the pillows were worse. The next night our keys wouldn't let us into either the building or our room. The front desk was empty. We rang the bell, knocked, and called, but got no answer. My pregnant wife and I waited there for more than 10 minutes. Eventually we looked into the office across the hall and found an employee asleep on the couch, half hanging off as if she'd passed out. When she woke, she seemed confused and disoriented. We got the keys sorted out and went back to the smelly room. At checkout the next morning, staff didn't seem interested when I tried to reach a manager. Yelm doesn't have another hotel, but I'll stay outside town next time.

Needed a night to myself, so I booked a room at the last minute. The staff were nice and accommodating, and even gave me some gum and water. A good first experience. Thanks for the lovely service.

The room was already pretty poor quality, with very few amenities, and it felt dingy and dirty. The reservation problem made things worse: we'd booked two days, but since we didn't arrive on the first day, they canceled it and still charged my card. When we came for the second night, they said they couldn't honor the reservation and that I'd have to make a new one. Terrible customer service and an awful policy.
